Water situation in the province of Alicante

After a meteorologically atypical year, the current situation of the reservoirs, of which the supply and irrigation in Alicante depends, is mentioned below:

– Amadorio and Guadalest dams have upper levels than the average levels, like shows the water volume evolution graphic from the reservoir of Amadorio.

– In the ‘alto Tajo’ and ‘alto Segura’ levels are alarmingly low, which is worrying because our province depends a lot on them, specially for irrigation. In fact, the ‘Tajo-Segura’ transfer is in Level 4 since 19th May, which forbids the transfer. The water volume evolution from the Entrepeñas, Buendía and Fuensanta reservoirs is shown in the graphics below.

– In the ‘Júcar’, although in the upper basin the situation is also bad, in Cortes the levels are within the average of the last years.

– Due to the precipitation of this year, the provincial underground reservoirs show a clear recovery, such as the aquifer of ‘Mediodía’. The water level evolution of this undergound reservoir is shown on the graphic.
Although, those aquifers in Vinalopó with structural overuse show no recovery, like the Serral-Salinas aquifer (last graphic).
